The Jurisdictional Approach (JA) breaks the organisational certification boundary and establishes a new certification model. In the JA a whole region can be certified, here the certification unit is the region, differing from the traditional certification, where the unit is organisation

Apart from potential risk on
credibility, which might be related to this model, in my opinion the JA may
represent a great opportunity especially for sustainable crop specific
roundtables.
In my opinion for the round table
is a good momentum to use the JA to re establishes its own boundaries and
rethink its business models. Just as an example, here in Brazil, more
specifically in Sao Paulo State. Using the JA, four round tables together would
be responsible to certify 90% of the state agricultural area, something around
16 million hectares (39 million acres).
So together, Bonsucro
(sugarcane), RTRS (sustainable beef), RTRS (sustainable soy), FSC (sustainable
forest) could do together something unimaginable doing alone.
What is your opinion on the JA?
